「～される」という意味の受動態には、 by だけでなく他の前置詞が使われる場合もあります。今回は受動態の前置詞についてお伝えします。

解答と解説
1. She was surprised ( at ) the news.
2. Milk is made ( into ) cheese.
「～に加工する」は be made into ～です。
3. More than 100 people were killed ( in ) the plane crash.
4. She is married ( to ) a writer.
withではありません。
5. My son is frightened ( of ) cockroaches.
6. She was excited ( at / about / by ) her promotion.
7. He was caught ( in ) a heavy rain on his way home.
8. She is known ( to ) everybdody.
9. A man is known ( by ) the company he keeps.
次のようなことわざもあります。
A tree is known ( by ) its fruit.
（木はその実でわかります。→人はその行為で判断されます。）
「～に知られている」は be known to ～が一般的ですが、9. のように判断の基準を表す際は by が用いられます。
10. I am interested ( in ) studying abroad.
11. She was dressed ( in ) a white dress.
12. He was disappointed ( at / in / with ) the result.
13. This wallet is made ( of ) leather.
14. Whisky is made ( from ) barkley.
13. のように材料の質が変化しない場合は be made of ～、14.のように変化する場合はbe made from ～です。
15. He is tired ( of ) reading.
tired は「疲れている」という意味もあり形容詞として使われていますが、be tired of ～で「～に飽きている」という意味です。
「be動詞＋過去分詞」の後ろに続く前置詞が決まっている場合もあるし、意味が変わる場合もあります。前置詞にも注意して固まりで覚えておきましょう。
